Green-1000’ Project Launched in Thiruvananthapuram.

The ‘Green-1000’ project has been launched in Thiruvananthapuram to enhance urban biodiversity and promote greenery. Supported technically by the Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanic Garden and Research Institute (JNTBGRI), Palode, the project aims to plant 1,000 native trees across educational institutions, government offices, and public spaces in the city. The initiative is funded by the CSR Fund of Adani Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.

The project was inaugurated at Government Women’s College, Thiruvananthapuram by Dr. N. Anilkumar, Chairman of the Kerala State Biodiversity Board. Dr. V. Balakrishnan, Member Secretary, explained the objectives of the project. Dr. T. Sabu, Technical Officer at JNTBGRI, provided guidance on the selection and planting techniques of native tree species.

The project includes planting native species such as Karanchali, Ponnunjaval, Undappayin, Malamavu, and Kayampu. Native trees help increase urban biodiversity, provide habitats for birds and small wildlife, and maintain environmental balance. Teachers, students, and officials from various institutions participated in planting the saplings, marking the official launch of the project.
