Personal Biography
Sumitha B., born on May 20, 1971, resides in ‘Madhavam,’ Perukavu P.O., Thiruvananthapuram-695573, and works as a Technical Officer at JNTBGRI, Palode, Thiruvananthapuram. She specializes in extracting and isolating compounds from Tropical Medicinal Plants, with a focus on essential oil extraction from aromatic plants using hydrodistillation and Gas Chromatographic Techniques for analysis. Sumitha is dedicated to studying the phytochemical components of plants, particularly their health benefits to humanity. Outside of work, her hobbies include reading books, gardening, and listening to music.

- Phytochemical investigation of Tropical Medicinal Plants with a view to develop new drugs, pharmaceutical products, chemicals , industrial raw materials etc. ( Govt. of Kerala).
- Working as a Co-investigator in the ongoing project titled 'Phytochemical investigation of oils and fats from the endemic plants of the Western Ghats' - P 007(B).

Work Experience
The individual underwent professional growth through various positions and organizations, starting with a Graduate Trainee Certificate course at CSIR-NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram. They worked on contract and project basis at CSIR-NIIST, including roles in the Organic/Entomology Division and Oil Seeds Research Section. Subsequently, they held positions such as Laboratory Technician and Technical Assistant on a contract basis at the Phytochemistry Division, JNTBGRI, Palode, Thiruvananthapuram. Progressing to permanent roles, they served as Technical Officer Grade I at JNTBGRI and later transferred to the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment. Currently, they are a Technical Officer Grade IV, working with the Phytochemistry and Phytopharmacology Division, JNTBGRI, Palode, Thiruvananthapuram.
