  • Taxonomy Division : Herbarium (1984-1989)

    • Actively engaged in the development of TBGT herbarium from the very scratch enriched Ratanatum with twelve species
    • Introduced two Giant water lilies to the Garden.
    • Located two Calamus spp first time in Kerala forest as new record.

     

    Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Division: Conservation Biotechnology(1990-till now )

    • As part of conservation rapid propagation technique has been standardized from zygotic embryos of two Calamus spp
    • Standardized mass multiplication protocols for plants like Philodendron, Hedichium, Helicornia, Anthurium, Spathoglotis etc.
    • Ex situ Conservation and characterization of vanishing Wild Musa species of Southern Western Ghats
    • Developed a protocol for long term conservation of wild Musa through zygotic embryo cryopreservation
    • Evaluated seventeen traditional varieties (diploid) of Musa and popularized selected cultivars through in vitro multiplication and supplied to local farmers for on farm conservation
    • Analyzed & ascertained the ploidy status of six south Indian cultivar ecotypes using flow cytometry.
    • Molecular characterization of two disputed cultivars by molecular markers to determine Genetic variability.
    • Phytochemical studies on neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine and their precursors in selected Banana varieties.
